Structure and Purpose of Safety Nets
Material Selection for Field Nets
The durability of the material used in field safety nets directly affects the net's performance. Generally, polyethylene (PE) and polyamide (PA) materials are preferred because they are UV-resistant, waterproof, and have high tensile strength. The mesh size should be determined according to the sport. While a mesh size of 10–12 cm is sufficient for football fields, for sports involving smaller balls like tennis or golf, the mesh size should be 3–5 cm. Using thicker rope contributes to the longevity of the net. Additionally, color selection is an important factor; black and green colors look more aesthetic while reflecting less sunlight outdoors.
Field Net Maintenance and Recommendations for Long-Lasting Use
Regular maintenance is essential for field safety nets to be used for a long time. Over time, wear, tears, or looseness may be observed in the nets. Therefore, periodic checks should be made, and loose areas should be re-tensioned. Deformations due to rain, wind, and sun can occur in nets; hence, outdoor nets should have UV protection. In regions with heavy snowfall during winter months, it is recommended to periodically clear snow to prevent nets from being overloaded. When tears are noticed, repairs can be made with professional repair kits. With proper installation, quality materials, and regular maintenance, field safety nets retain their performance for years and give sports fields a professional appearance.
