What is Valentine's Day and its Origin

This special day is celebrated every year on February 14th as Valentine's Day.

If we look back centuries for Valentine's Day, there is a legend as follows… In the 3rd century AD, Emperor Claudius II banned young soldiers from getting married. The Roman Emperor, who thought that married young people would experience a lack of concentration and strength in war, spread this with a strict order. According to the legend, Saint Valentine, a clergyman in the church, defied this ban and secretly performed marriages for young people who wanted to get married. Of course, he paid the price for this betrayal with his life, and Saint Valentine was executed on February 14th. For this reason, Valentine's Day is celebrated every year on February 14th. Although this day has no connection with our beliefs and country, it originated from the Roman Catholic Church and emerged as a holiday declared in honor of a clergyman named Valentine. Therefore, in some communities, it is also referred to as “Saint Valentine’s Day”. Although Valentine is actually a name, this word is used in Western societies to mean sweetheart, liked person, or loved person. Today, this day is celebrated in almost every part of the world. Especially to liven up the markets, many major companies announce their campaigns days in advance for this special day. We also comply with the Valentine's Day imposed on us and look for gifts for our lovers and spouses. Roses and flowers are indispensable for Valentine's Day. According to some estimates, it is said that nearly 1 billion greeting cards are sent worldwide on Valentine's Day.

Well, what can we buy for our loved ones? Let's talk about that a bit too.

We women generally choose gifts such as shirts, pants, shoes, perfume, etc. for our loved ones, while men prefer gold, diamonds, flowers, and all kinds of clothing items as gifts to women. If we consider different alternatives, surprise dinners and surprise holidays can be options. As I mentioned at the beginning of my article, I think Valentine's Day is a part of the capitalist system that forces people to buy gifts every month of the year. The most beautiful gift for a true love is sacrifice, tolerance, and understanding. No material object can be more important than a person who truly loves you…
