Toilet Training

Many mothers and fathers are unsure when to start toilet training their children. Although toilet training, which varies from child to child, can begin between 18-24 months when your child is ready, it's important to note that readiness can differ. For girls, learning to use the potty may take longer. However, you can toilet train your child in as little as a week.

Basic Steps for Training

Allow your child to wander around the house naked. Use simple instructions. Stop using diapers except for nighttime sleep. Get training pants. They will help you notice when your child is wet. It is likely that your child will have a bowel movement 30 minutes after eating or bathing. Ensure your child understands the words you use during toilet training. Use encouraging words like "well done" when they sit on the potty. Make gentle reminders without pressure. Have them sit on the potty, whether they need to go or not, as if playing a game. If necessary, accompany your child by sitting on the toilet yourself. This is also very important for training your child's bowel movements. Implement a reward system. Give a favorite food as a reward during dinner or lunch. When your child goes to the toilet, clap to cheer them on and show them they have done a great job. Celebrate this great victory together by making a few phone calls to your loved ones.
