Perito Moreno Glacier

Located in the Patagonia region in southern Argentina, the Perito Moreno Glacier, nicknamed the "white giant," is situated at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level. The Perito Moreno Glacier, which is also an extension of the Campo de Hielo Sur glacier, takes its name from the Patagonian explorer Francisco Pascasio Moreno. El Calafate, located 80 km away, is the closest settlement to the Perito Moreno Glacier.

A White Giant in Argentina

Located within Los Glaciares National Park, the glacier is the most frequently visited area by tourists traveling to Argentina. The Perito Moreno Glacier, a continuously growing glacier resulting from strong rainfall from Pacific clouds over the Andes mountains, advances its 60-kilometer ice mass by 1 meter every day. There is a constant breaking and cracking. Large chunks break off its front face. These breaks create high waves in the lake. Every four years, it causes the water level of the southern rivers to rise. This means the complete fragmentation of the glacier's front part. This natural spectacle causes a large number of tourists and documentary filmmakers to flock to the region every year.
