Is Life Insurance Mandatory for Loans?
Is Life Insurance Mandatory for Loans?
Life insurance is not mandatory for all loans, including housing and vehicle loans. However, in order to mitigate the risk of the bank's receivables in case the borrower passes away before the loan term ends, banks make life insurance mandatory and ensure that every customer who takes out a loan has it. In this way, the bank secures its receivables and also earns a double profit by finding customers for its own insurance units.
What Happens If I Don't Get Life Insurance?
If you do not get life insurance and pass away before paying off your entire debt, the remaining debt will be collected from your legal heirs. In other words, if you take out a housing loan and pass away before paying off your debt, your loved ones may lose their home if they cannot pay the debt.
